Romanian state-owned coal-based electricity producer Energy Complex (EC) Oltenia offered electricity supply contracts with delivery in the first quarter of 2022 at the price of 120 euros/MWh, but Enel bought the packages at the record price of 166 euros/MWh.

This price is very profitable even for EC Oltenia, because its production cost amounts to around 103 euros/MWh, which also includes CO2 emissions price, currently traded at 60 euros/ton.

The company’s General Manager Daniel Burlan said recently that the prices achieved on the spot market are more than three times higher than prices agreed under the bilateral supply contract for the same period.
