The LNG terminal in Omišalj, located on Croatia’s island of Krk, has solidified its position as a vital component of gas supply security for both Croatia and the broader Southeast European region. Since commencing operations, the terminal has processed 18.8 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, contributing over 11.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Croatia’s transmission network.
To date, the facility has welcomed 133 LNG carriers, facilitating the transfer of gas into 545 LNG trucks. Notably, the Krk terminal has accounted for more than 60% of all gas entering Croatia’s transport infrastructure, underscoring its strategic importance within the national energy framework.
A significant development occurred with the recent upgrade of the floating storage and regasification unit operated by LNG Hrvatska. The vessel underwent modifications at a shipyard in Turkey, where a new regasification module was installed before returning to its operational berth in Omišalj.
This upgrade has resulted in an increase in the terminal’s annual regasification capacity from 3.9 billion cubic meters to 6.1 billion cubic meters. According to LNG Hrvatska, this enhancement significantly boosts supply reliability for Croatia and its neighboring markets, which are increasingly reliant on Krk as a crucial alternative entry point for natural gas imports.
