The average household electricity bill in Montenegro reached €49.31 in August, according to state utility EPCG. The figure was up 25% compared with the same month of the previous year. EPCG also said the increase followed a sharp rise in summer demand.
The August average bill was 16.4% higher than July’s €42.36. Households consumed 173.6 million kWh during August, up 21.25% from August 2025. Consumption was also 17.48% higher than in July.
Regional differences in average household bills
Ulcinj recorded the highest average household bill at €89.10. The coastal municipality’s figures were linked to heavy summer demand, EPCG said. Pljevlja had the lowest average bill at €21.70.
EPCG reported that just over half of households received bills below €30. Another 18.14% of households paid between €30 and €50. A further 19.97% were billed between €50 and €100, while 10.32% received bills exceeding €100.
EPCG discounts and drivers of summer demand
EPCG granted payment discounts to 117,336 customers, representing about 28.2% of consumers. EPCG said the higher bills reflected the impact of tourism, air-conditioning and seasonal population growth on Montenegro’s summer power balance.
The utility added that domestic generation is exposed to hydrological conditions. It said stronger coastal consumption can increase the need for market purchases during expensive peak periods.
