Hidroelectrica, Romania’s largest producer of renewable electricity, is advancing its clean energy initiatives with the announcement of a new solar power project. The company has secured a contract for the construction of the Tudor Vladimirescu solar power plant located in Brăila County. This project marks a significant expansion of Hidroelectrica’s operations beyond its traditional focus on hydropower.
The contract has been awarded to Enevo Group under a full turnkey model, following a competitive tender process. This comprehensive agreement encompasses all phases of development, including engineering, procurement of equipment, construction, and commissioning, structured within an integrated EPC framework.
Valued at approximately €30.4 million, the contract is slightly lower than the initial budget estimate of €31.9 million, excluding VAT. Upon completion, the Tudor Vladimirescu facility is expected to have an installed capacity of 46 MW and generate around 59.2 GWh of electricity annually.
The timeline for project execution is set for 36 months, with actual construction anticipated to take about two years. This initiative aligns with Hidroelectrica’s strategic objective to diversify its renewable energy portfolio amid increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
Currently, Hidroelectrica operates the largest green electricity asset base in Romania, which includes 188 hydropower plants and the Crucea wind farm. The company’s total installed capacity is approximately 6.5 GW, incorporating the 108 MW Crucea wind project. This expansion into solar energy not only enhances its operational footprint but also reinforces its leadership position in the Romanian electricity supply market across both competitive and retail segments.
As Romania continues to transition towards renewable energy sources, developments like the Tudor Vladimirescu solar power plant are crucial in meeting national energy goals and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
