The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has finalized two significant grant agreements with the German development bank KfW, aimed at facilitating the construction and subsequent phases of the 50 MW Vlašić wind farm project located near Travnik. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity in the region.
Total grant financing amounts to nearly €22 million, as approved under proposals from the Federal Ministry of Finance. The funding is primarily directed towards the state-owned utility EPBiH, which is spearheading the project. This financial backing underscores FBiH’s commitment to advancing its renewable energy infrastructure.
Of the total funding, approximately €19.93 million is earmarked for essential preparatory works, construction activities, and technical assistance associated with the wind farm’s development. Additionally, this financial package includes provisions to mitigate costs arising from exchange-rate fluctuations, a critical factor in international financing.
Furthermore, an additional grant of up to €2 million is designated for post-construction efforts at the wind farm. This funding will support environmental monitoring initiatives and operational optimization measures, including a comprehensive two-year study focused on local bird and bat populations. Such studies are vital for ensuring ecological balance while advancing renewable energy projects.
The second grant will also facilitate technical compliance verification of the installed equipment, alongside initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. This includes predictive maintenance strategies and improved production management through better utilization of project data. These measures are crucial for maximizing the wind farm’s output and ensuring its long-term viability within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy landscape.
