Coordination ahead of public application call
Authorities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) are working on a new incentive programme aimed at helping households install rooftop solar systems and take part in the energy transition as prosumers. Representatives of key energy institutions met this week to agree on the next steps before a public call for applications is launched. The meeting included officials from the Renewable Energy and Efficient Cogeneration Operator (OIEiEK), the Energy Regulatory Commission of the Federation of BiH (FERK), and the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry. It also brought together the two power utilities, EPBiH and EP HZHB.
The programme is intended to provide financial assistance to households for solar power systems primarily used for their own consumption. Utility representatives reported progress on handling requests from future prosumers. EPBiH said procedures for issuing network connection approvals are already underway. EP HZHB reported that it is currently processing dozens of submitted applications.
Support mechanism design and implementation steps
OIEiEK management said recent work has focused on removing barriers that previously slowed renewable energy project development. It added that after measures to improve conditions for investors, attention is now shifting toward enabling households to play a more active role in the energy market. The planned subsidy scheme is expected to be the first structured mechanism in FBiH that redirects part of funds collected through renewable energy support charges back to citizens. The assistance would be used to encourage installation of small-scale solar power plants for self-consumption.
Officials also pointed to strong public interest in the initiative, linked to demand among households to reduce energy costs and participate directly in renewable electricity generation. To support implementation, public information events are planned over the coming months. These sessions will cover eligibility requirements, application procedures, and documentation needed to apply for support. Preparatory work continues as authorities plan to publish the public call within 90 days.
Further details are expected to be announced through official communication channels once the launch date is confirmed.
