Weekly pattern across European power markets
In the second week of June, most European electricity markets reached their highest price levels at the start of the week, then moved lower through subsequent trading sessions. Weekly average electricity prices fell in most markets, indicating easing pressure across the region. France was the exception, with prices up 16% versus the previous week.
Spain and Portugal recorded the largest weekly declines, with both markets down 20%. In other markets assessed by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, price changes ranged from a 1.6% reduction in Great Britain to an 18% drop in the Nordic region. The overall direction therefore varied by country even as many markets declined.
Average prices during the week of June 8
During the week of June 8, average electricity prices stayed below €85/MWh in most European markets. Germany averaged €86.44/MWh, while Great Britain posted €102.52/MWh and Italy reached €123.17/MWh. France recorded the lowest weekly average at €26.21/MWh, despite its week-on-week increase.
Other weekly averages ranged from €45.42/MWh in Spain to €84.88/MWh in the Netherlands. These figures cover the same June 8–week period referenced across multiple countries in the assessment.
Daily volatility and session lows
Daily price movements showed marked volatility across Europe over the period described. The French market frequently traded below €30/MWh, while similar lows occurred in Spain and Portugal on June 12. Great Britain and the Netherlands saw comparable lows on June 13.
Lows also appeared in Germany, Belgium, and the Nordic market on June 13–14. France recorded the lowest daily average of the week at €11.64/MWh on June 11. Great Britain hit its lowest level since April 12, reaching €27.42/MWh on June 13.
Sustained high-price sessions and key daily peaks
Beneath the lows, several markets also logged repeated sessions above a higher price threshold during the same week. Italy experienced daily prices above €100/MWh throughout Monday to Friday, while Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, and the Netherlands also recorded multiple sessions above that level. The Nordic market crossed above €100/MWh on June 8.
The highest daily average for Italy was recorded at €146.65/MWh on June 10, which was its highest level since mid-April. Germany and Italy also posted notably low daily averages on June 14, at €25.12/MWh for Germany and €91.15/MWh for Italy.
Main drivers cited for price direction into late June
AleaSoft Energy Forecasting linked overall movements to lower CO₂ allowance prices and higher wind generation in most markets, which exerted downward pressure on electricity prices. It also cited reduced demand in Great Britain as an additional factor behind price declines during the period described.
The same assessment pointed to higher demand and weaker wind output in France as support for its weekly price increase of 16%. Looking ahead, AleaSoft expects prices to rise in most European markets in the third week of June, driven by higher electricity demand and lower wind generation, with gas price trends also expected to influence market direction .
