In April 2026, North Macedonia’s electricity market demonstrated a notable year-on-year increase in trading volume, with a total of 117,727.5 MWh exchanged. This figure represents a 6.8% rise from the 97,069 MWh traded in April 2025. However, the data reveals a significant monthly decline of 14% compared to March 2026, indicating fluctuations in trading activity.
The average market-clearing price for electricity during this month was reported at €87.8/MWh, reflecting a decrease of 7.5% from the previous month. This decline in prices may suggest adjustments in supply and demand dynamics within the market.
On a daily basis, the average trading volume stood at 3,924.3 MWh, which illustrates a stable yet moderate liquidity environment. The peak price recorded for April 2026 was €57.8/MWh, pointing to relatively low price volatility throughout the month.
The establishment of North Macedonia’s electricity exchange in May 2023 has positioned it as an emerging player within the regional power trading framework. As it continues to evolve, the exchange is expected to play an increasingly significant role in shaping market operations and enhancing competitive dynamics in Southeast Europe.
