In March 2026, the Croatian electricity exchange CROPEX recorded a total trading volume of 989,922.7 MWh, reflecting a significant 9.2% increase from February. This growth was driven by the day-ahead market, which accounted for 737,162.1 MWh of the total, while the intraday market contributed 252,760.6 MWh. However, it is noteworthy that this monthly increase was overshadowed by a 9.6% decline year-on-year, indicating a reduction in trading activity compared to March 2025.

The price dynamics within the market exhibited contrasting trends. The average daily base price on the day-ahead market rose to 110.12 euros/MWh, marking a 2.4% increase from the previous month. Conversely, the average euro-peak price saw a sharp decline to 93.73 euros/MWh, down by 17.6% month-on-month. The intraday market also experienced a price increase, with an average of 109.85 euros/MWh, which is a 4.9% rise compared to February. The daily trading volume on the day-ahead market averaged 23,779.4 MWh.

CROPEX has been operational since its establishment on 11 March 2016, in collaboration with Nord Pool, and serves as Croatia’s primary electricity trading platform. It is co-owned by HOPS, the transmission system operator, and HROTE, the market operator. The launch of the intraday market in April 2017 has provided enhanced flexibility for market participants. A significant development occurred on 19 June 2018, when CROPEX successfully coupled its day-ahead market with Multi-Regional Coupling (MRC) markets across the Croatian-Slovenian border, thereby promoting regional integration and facilitating cross-border electricity trading.
