In a significant development for regional energy dynamics, Croatia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk has surpassed a crucial operational benchmark, with total gas deliveries into the national transmission system exceeding 12 billion cubic meters. This milestone coincides with the terminal’s recent five-year anniversary of commercial operations, underscoring its increasing importance in the energy landscape.
Since its inception, the facility located in Omišalj has processed approximately 19.83 million cubic meters of LNG transported by sea. The terminal has welcomed 140 LNG carriers, reflecting its expanding role as a pivotal hub for regional energy supply and highlighting its capacity to meet growing demand.
In addition to its pipeline operations, the Krk terminal has enhanced its logistical capabilities by facilitating road-based gas distribution. To date, it has loaded 588 tanker trucks, which broadens its operational scope beyond direct connections to the domestic gas network and enhances overall supply flexibility.
According to LNG Hrvatska, the terminal’s operator, these figures are indicative of years characterized by stable operations and high technical reliability. The facility is recognized as a vital asset within Croatia’s energy infrastructure, particularly in light of broader European initiatives aimed at diversifying energy sources and bolstering supply resilience amid shifting market conditions.
