The gas transmission operators of Croatia and Slovenia, Plinacro and Plinovodi, have formalized an agreement aimed at bolstering the energy connectivity between their two nations. This initiative focuses on augmenting the transport capacity at the Rogatec gas interconnection point, facilitating a more efficient flow of natural gas from Croatia to Slovenia.
This collaborative agreement outlines a series of joint efforts to enhance gas infrastructure, enabling increased volumes of cross-border gas transmission. The anticipated expansion is expected to significantly improve supply reliability, fortify regional energy resilience, and enhance the integration of interconnected gas systems throughout Southeastern Europe.
The project will leverage ongoing enhancements to Croatia’s existing gas transmission network, which are intended to boost overall transport capacity and diversify access to gas supplies for adjacent markets. Both operators have underscored the critical nature of sustained cooperation in establishing a more secure and interconnected regional energy framework.
As per information from Plinacro, the Rogatec interconnection is projected to achieve a capacity of up to 170,000 cubic meters per hour following the completion of pipeline upgrades funded through Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Essential infrastructure improvements will include sections of the Bosiljevo–Sisak and Kozarac–Sisak pipelines.
If upstream pressure conditions are satisfied, this expanded capacity could be operational by the end of December. This development represents a significant advancement in regional energy cooperation, enhancing overall supply security across interconnected gas markets.
