Fortis Energy, a Turkish developer, has commenced construction on a significant renewable energy facility in southeastern Albania. This project, located near the town of Erseke, encompasses a large-scale solar power plant paired with an integrated battery storage system.
The solar park is set to have an installed capacity of 62 MW. Once operational, it is projected to generate approximately 135 GWh of clean electricity annually, thereby enhancing Albania’s power supply with a reliable renewable energy source. This development aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy mix and bolster sustainability.
A key component of this initiative is the battery energy storage system, which will have the capability to store up to 25 MWh of electricity. This feature will allow for the retention of excess solar energy, enabling its release during peak demand periods or when sunlight is insufficient. Such capabilities are crucial for improving grid stability and providing operational flexibility within the energy market.
The necessary construction permit was issued by Albanian authorities earlier this summer, facilitating the timely commencement of site works and ensuring that the project remains on schedule for completion. This swift regulatory approval reflects a supportive environment for renewable energy investments in the region.
In addition to the Erseke project, Fortis Energy is expanding its footprint across Albania, with plans for several solar parks in locations such as Diber, Shkoder, Fier, and Vlore. Collectively, these projects are expected to contribute several hundred megawatts to the national grid, reinforcing Fortis Energy’s ambition to become a significant player in Albania’s renewable energy sector.
