The renewable energy sector in Vojvodina is experiencing significant growth, underscored by the recent approval of a new biogas power plant in Plandiste. Local authorities have sanctioned the construction of a facility with an installed capacity of 1 MW, which is expected to contribute to the region’s renewable energy output this year.
This project will be executed by Alter Biogas Plan, a local company that has received the necessary approvals from various municipal departments, including urban planning and environmental protection. The plant is classified under category G and is designed to produce an output of 999 kW. The construction will unfold in two phases, starting with the establishment of essential technological infrastructure such as primary fermenters and a combined heat and power (CHP) unit.
The second phase will involve further enhancements, adding additional fermenters and a second CHP unit to maximize production capabilities. This strategic approach aims to ensure stable electricity generation at full capacity once completed.
Plandiste’s role as a center for biogas initiatives was highlighted in late 2024 when urban planning proposals indicated the potential for up to 20 independent biogas plants in the area, each with a capacity of 999 kW. This vision reflects a commitment to developing agricultural-based energy projects within the municipality.
The new biogas facility will directly supply electricity to the grid, while also utilizing the heat generated during production for internal processes. The biogas will primarily be produced from agricultural feedstocks such as corn silage and rye silage, effectively integrating renewable energy development with local agricultural practices in Vojvodina.
