In March 2026, the Serbian energy exchange SEEPEX recorded a total trading volume of 447,933 MWh on its day-ahead market. This figure reflects a notable 10.5% increase from February, with an average daily trading volume of 14,772 MWh. Despite this upward trend month-on-month, the trading volume remains 12% lower than the same period last year, indicating potential challenges in maintaining year-over-year growth.
The market dynamics are further illustrated by the pricing trends observed during March. The average daily base price for electricity reached €94.67/MWh, which signifies a substantial 38% increase from February’s prices. Additionally, the average euro-peak price also saw an uptick, climbing to €83.26/MWh, marking a month-on-month rise of 12.4%. These price movements suggest heightened demand or supply constraints affecting the market.
Established on 17 February 2016, SEEPEX has evolved significantly since its inception when it recorded a mere 1,925 MWh in traded volume. The exchange is co-owned by EMS (the Serbian electricity transmission system operator) and EPEX SPOT, with a mission to foster a competitive and transparent electricity market in Serbia and throughout Southeast Europe. This strategic positioning aims to enhance trading activity across the region.
A key development in SEEPEX’s operational framework occurred with the launch of its intraday market in July 2023. This initiative is expected to bolster liquidity and provide greater flexibility for market participants, further enhancing the overall efficiency of electricity trading in Serbia.
