The Romanian electricity market has witnessed a substantial decline in prices on the day-ahead market, with the average price falling to 99.75 euros/MWh in February 2026. This represents a notable 36.54% decrease compared to the same month in 2025 and a 33.73% drop from January 2026, when the average baseload price was recorded at 150.51 euros/MWh.
Trading activity also showed mixed results during this period. The total traded volume for February reached 1.48 million MWh, marking an increase of 11.48% year-on-year from February 2025. However, this figure is 3.01% lower than the volume traded in January 2026, with an average traded volume of 2,195.1 MWh/h.
The financial landscape of the market reflected these trends, as the total transaction value for February amounted to 150.3 million euros. This indicates a significant 29.98% decline from February 2025, which had a transaction value of 214.6 million euros, and a 36.34% drop from January 2026’s value of 236.1 million euros. Notably, the day-ahead market share of forecasted net consumption in February 2025 was recorded at 32.47%.
<pIn terms of intraday trading, February saw a total of 133,576.7 MWh traded, reflecting a decrease of 35.93% compared to February 2025 and down 16.54% from January 2026 levels. The average intraday price settled at 92.78 euros/MWh, which is significantly lower by 38.94% year-on-year and down 42.34% from the previous month.
The data emerging from February 2026 highlights a clear correction in electricity prices alongside moderate trading volumes, indicating underlying weaknesses in market fundamentals and a persistent softening of demand, as reported by AleaSoft.
