In a significant move towards enhancing its renewable energy capacity, Romania is advancing plans for the Dama Solar project, one of the largest solar installations in the country. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is currently assessing financing options for this photovoltaic initiative, which is spearheaded by West Power Investments, a special-purpose vehicle associated with Rezolv Energy.
The Dama Solar project is set to occupy over 1,000 hectares in the communes of Grăniceri and Pilu within Arad County. With an expected installed capacity of approximately 1,239 MW, this facility is positioned to be a key player in the region’s solar power landscape.
Project specifications indicate that the site will feature extensive ground-mounted solar panels complemented by inverter systems, alongside a medium-voltage internal network and necessary access infrastructure. A high-voltage transformer station and an underground cable connection to the national transmission grid will facilitate the integration of this energy source into Romania’s electricity system. The operational phase of this plant is anticipated to lead to substantial environmental benefits, with projected annual reductions in carbon dioxide emissions estimated at around 619,000 tons.
Rezolv Energy, established in 2022 by UK-based investor Actis, has been instrumental in driving this project forward. Since its inception, Rezolv Energy has developed a diverse portfolio of renewable energy initiatives across Southeastern Europe, amassing a combined capacity of roughly 2.3 GW. This strategic positioning not only underscores the company’s commitment to renewable energy but also highlights the growing importance of solar power in Romania’s energy transition.
