PRP Crni Vrh 1 switching station links Crni Vrh wind power to Serbia’s grid

PRP Crni Vrh 1 is a transmission grid connection facility located about six kilometres from the Bor–Žagubica main road in eastern Serbia’s mountainous terrain. The high-voltage switching and connection installation is part of the Crni Vrh Wind Farm complex and provides the interface for delivering wind-generated electricity into Serbia’s national transmission system. Built to international engineering standards, it was constructed during 2024.

The switching station is designed as a long-term strategic transmission node intended to support future renewable developments across eastern Serbia. While it serves as the grid connection point for the initial wind project, its configuration is set up to accommodate additional renewable generation beyond a single facility. Following testing, protection verification and commissioning, the installation was energized in November 2024.

Switching station configuration and commissioning

The station comprises twelve 110 kV bays, with ten fully equipped and operational. Its installed arrangement includes three 33/110 kV transformer bays, six transmission line bays, and one bus-coupler bay. Commissioning activities concluded with the successful energization of PRP Crni Vrh 1 in November 2024.

Integration into the national transmission system required modifications to existing lines, including rerouting and tie-in works for DV 150, DV 177/2, and DV 122B. These changes were carried out to introduce the lines into the new switching station. The works were intended to improve operational security and add transmission capacity for future renewable generation.

Transmission hub role across eastern Serbia

PRP Crni Vrh 1 currently operates as a transmission hub connecting the Bor 1, Petrovac, Majdanpek 1, and Majdanpek 2 substations. This configuration supports power supply reliability across eastern Serbia while enabling the transmission system to handle increasing volumes of variable renewable generation. The facility’s location and network role are tied to its function within the regional grid.

The planned connection of the Jasikovo Wind Farm, under construction, is expected to expand PRP Crni Vrh 1’s role. Once operational, it will serve as a common transmission interface for multiple utility-scale wind farms, forming one of Serbia’s largest renewable energy clusters. The design incorporates requirements for reliable grid infrastructure, advanced protection systems, automation and sufficient transmission capacity.

The project is being constructed by EPC Kodar and supervised by OE Clarion.Engineer. A major milestone followed in late February 2026, when electricity generated by the Crni Vrh Wind Farm was injected into Serbia’s transmission network through PRP Crni Vrh 1.

Crni Vrh Wind Farm scale and owner’s engineer oversight

The Crni Vrh Wind Farm has an installed capacity of 150 MW. It is developed by Crni Vrh Power d.o.o. (CVP), with Shanghai Fengling Renewables Co., Ltd. listed as the principal investor. The project includes wind turbines, internal collector systems, substations, transmission infrastructure and grid connection facilities designed to deliver clean electricity into Serbia’s national power system.

Clarion.Engineer supported the investor across development, construction, energization and commissioning phases as the Owner’s Engineer (OE). Working alongside an appointed Supervision Engineer, it oversaw technical due diligence, construction quality, compliance with Serbian regulations, engineering documentation and commissioning readiness. It also covered grid connection activities, contract administration and technical risk management under the EPC contract requirements.

PRP Crni Vrh 1 also supports voltage stability and strengthens transmission system reliability in eastern Serbia. The facility provides additional network capacity intended for future renewable energy investments in the region. Its completion is described as establishing a modern high-voltage switching platform supporting long-term integration of renewable projects into Serbia’s electricity system.
