North Macedonian Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi said that the Government is planning to increase VAT on electricity to 10 % from current 5 %.
Minister Bekteshi said that, according to calculations, there is room for the increase up to 10 % without affecting the price of electricity for households and small businesses. He reiterated that the Government will not allow the increase in heating prices, adding that all electricity generation capacities in the country are currently in operation.
Last year, North Macedonian Government decided to reduce VAT on electricity from 18 to 5 % as part of measures to combat the effects of energy crisis. The measure was supposed to be valid until 1 July 2022, after which it was to be increased to 10 %, but the increase was later postponed.
