North Macedonia is making significant strides in enhancing its energy security and regional integration through the development of cross-border gas infrastructure. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski highlighted these initiatives during his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, emphasizing that energy connectivity plays a critical role in the nation’s long-term development strategy.
The country is currently aligning its energy policy with advancements in technology, including the integration of artificial intelligence. As part of this alignment, upgrades to the national electricity transmission network are in progress, complemented by targeted investments aimed at bolstering natural gas infrastructure.
A key component of this initiative is the ongoing construction of a natural gas pipeline that will connect North Macedonia with Greece. Additionally, preparatory works are set to commence on a second interconnector linking North Macedonia with Serbia. These projects are designed to enhance supply security while fostering deeper regional energy integration.
According to PM Mickoski, the establishment of these new gas connections is vital not only for North Macedonia’s own energy transition but also holds significant implications for the broader southeastern European region. The developments are expected to contribute to diversification, resilience, and enhanced regional cooperation, reinforcing the interconnectedness of energy markets in the area.
