In light of persistent volatility in the global energy landscape, Montenegro has opted to prolong its temporary reduction of fuel excise duties. This decision aims to alleviate the financial burden on consumers as international oil prices remain high, influenced by geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East. Originally enacted on 24 March, this measure was set to conclude this week but will now be extended for an additional five weeks, as announced by the Ministry of Energy.
The new expiration date for this policy is set for 26 May, reinforcing the government’s strategy to mitigate the effects of fluctuating global prices on the domestic fuel market. Under this initiative, excise duties on eurodiesel have been reduced by 50%, while taxes on eurosuper 95 and eurosuper 98 gasoline have seen a 25% decrease.
This tax relief is designed to curb the direct impact of rising international oil prices on local fuel costs. Government officials have indicated that this extension is a response to ongoing uncertainties in global supply chains. The overarching goal is to maintain price stability, thereby safeguarding households and businesses from further increases in energy expenses during this tumultuous period.
