Greenvolt Group has announced the acquisition of €58.5 million in project financing aimed at advancing the development of a new onshore wind farm located near Sacele in Romania’s Dobrogea region. This project will feature a total capacity of 48.9 MW, marking a significant step in the company’s renewable energy initiatives.
The financing, provided by Erste Group Bank AG and Banca Comercială Română (BCR), underscores the project’s solid financial backing as construction is already underway. The wind farm is projected to be completed and operational by the second quarter of 2026, contributing to the local and national energy landscape.
The Sacele wind farm is integral to Greenvolt’s strategic expansion within central and eastern Europe, highlighting Romania’s pivotal role in the company’s growth trajectory. The initiative aligns with broader decarbonization efforts and aims to bolster national energy security while decreasing dependence on imported fuels.
Greenvolt has established a robust renewable energy portfolio in Romania, which includes 555 MW of wind projects, 77 MW of solar capacity, and 156 MW of battery storage. Additionally, through its subsidiary Greenvolt Next, the company is engaged in the distributed generation sector, providing on-site renewable energy solutions tailored for corporate and industrial clients.
By integrating large-scale renewable generation with flexible storage options and decentralized energy solutions, Greenvolt is positioning itself as an influential participant in Romania’s energy transition. This approach supports the resilience and sustainability of the country’s electricity system amidst evolving market dynamics.
