In December 2025, North Macedonia’s day-ahead electricity trading market recorded a total trading volume of 118,102.7 MWh. This figure represents a substantial 19.9% increase compared to the 98,508 MWh traded in December 2024. Additionally, there was an 8.2% month-on-month rise from November 2025, indicating a positive trend in market activity.

The average market-clearing price for electricity during this period was €116.89/MWh, reflecting a decrease of 3.1% from the previous month. The average daily traded volume stood at 3,809.8 MWh, while the peak price for December reached €128.3/MWh, showcasing fluctuations within the market.

The establishment of the North Macedonian electricity exchange in May 2023 has been pivotal in fostering this growth. As it matures, the exchange is becoming an essential platform for electricity transactions, contributing to increased liquidity and efficiency in the market.

This upward trajectory in trading volumes and a decline in prices could signal a more competitive environment for electricity supply in North Macedonia. As the exchange continues to develop, it may attract further investment and participation from various stakeholders in the energy sector.

The implications of these developments are significant for market participants, regulators, and energy companies as they adapt to changing dynamics and seek opportunities within this evolving landscape.
