The energy sector in Bulgaria experienced notable changes in October 2025, as reported by the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute. Electricity production surged by 8.1% from September, totaling 3,175 GWh, while consumption outpaced this growth with a remarkable increase of 23.6%, reaching 2,940 GWh. Compared to the same month in the previous year, production rose by 9.3% and consumption saw a significant annual increase of 12.7% compared to October 2024.
In the natural gas sector, consumption saw a substantial month-on-month rise of 29.6%, amounting to 232 million cubic meters. However, production levels remained static at 1 million cubic meters. Year-over-year analysis indicates a 5.9% increase in gas consumption relative to October 2024, reflecting growing demand for natural gas as part of Bulgaria’s energy mix.
Fuel production and consumption trends displayed mixed results during this period. Unleaded petrol production decreased by 8%, resulting in a total output of 138,000 tons, while consumption fell sharply by 13.4% to 58,000 tons. Conversely, diesel production experienced a slight decline of 4%, totaling 267,000 tons; however, diesel consumption grew by 6.2%, reaching 257,000 tons. Additionally, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) faced challenges as its consumption decreased by 2.9% to 34,000 tons, with production dropping significantly by 16.7% to just 5,000 tons.
The rising electricity production and fluctuating fuel consumption trends indicate a dynamic energy landscape in Bulgaria as it adapts to changing market demands and regulatory frameworks. These developments are critical for stakeholders in the energy sector as they navigate operational strategies and investment opportunities amidst evolving consumption patterns.
