The development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy infrastructure is set to gain momentum with the recent submission of bids for the Šepak–Novi Grad gas pipeline project. This initiative, spearheaded by Sarajevo-gas, aims to enhance the country’s gas distribution capabilities and is valued at approximately €450 million, excluding VAT. The project has attracted bids from notable firms, including the Turkish construction company Vemak İnşaat and Konvar, representing a consortium of Serbian companies.
As reported by Nedeljko Elek, the director of Sarajevo-gas, the tender process has now entered its first evaluation phase. This stage focuses on a comprehensive assessment of technical documentation, licenses, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Only those bidders who meet these stringent criteria will be eligible to progress to the subsequent phase, where their financial proposals will be opened and scrutinized.
Launched at the end of last year, this tender represents one of the largest energy infrastructure investments ever proposed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The scope of work encompasses not only the design and construction of the pipeline but also all necessary civil engineering activities required for its successful completion. This comprehensive approach underscores the project’s significance in bolstering the region’s energy framework.
The awarding of the contract will be determined by the lowest offered price, contingent upon bidders fulfilling all technical and administrative conditions. The proposed route for the pipeline closely aligns with that of the Eastern Gas Interconnection project, which has long been identified as a crucial element for future gas infrastructure development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
