Aquila European Renewables has successfully executed a significant divestment by selling the 40 MW Desfina wind farm in Greece, a move that underscores the company’s strategic exit from its renewable energy portfolio. This transaction, valued at €26 million, follows regulatory approval obtained earlier this year and marks a critical phase in the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
The Desfina wind farm represented an 89% ownership stake for Aquila, and its sale is part of a larger agreement involving the transfer of both Greek and Danish renewable assets to funds managed by Aquila Capital. This broader deal, which was established in late 2025, has a total transaction value approaching €62 million. Notably, the Danish assets included in this arrangement were finalized by the end of the previous year, indicating a proactive approach to asset management.
As Aquila European Renewables continues to streamline its operations, additional divestments are anticipated. The company expects to return further capital to its investors as it completes remaining transactions. As of mid-2025, Aquila managed a substantial portfolio that exceeded 400 MW of combined wind and solar capacity, which is now being systematically liquidated as part of its structured exit strategy. This ongoing process reflects broader trends within the renewable energy sector, where companies are reassessing their portfolios amid changing market dynamics.
