Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic, Mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas and Swiss Ambassador to Serbia, Jean-Daniel Ruch signed an agreement regarding a pilot project between the two countries, to use biomass for heating the greenhouses of PKB, a school and a psychiatric hospital near Padinska skela.
The statement says that biomass would be used as a renewable energy source for heat and electricity, and to sell electricity to Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and to improve energy efficiency of the mentioned school and psychiatric hospital.
After the harvest in the fields of PKB a large amount of unused biomass remains which is a significant energy source.
Total investment in the new plant is about 2.58 million, and investment in energy efficiency measures is another 2.588 million Euros.
To build the infrastructure an investment of 2.57 million is necessary.
In the already constructed CHP plant of 1.5 MW, used for heating the greenhouse in PKB, spreading over one hectare, they successfully use soybean straw as the primary fuel.
The total heating power required for heating facilities in Padinska Skela is about three MW and this is the first project that includes combined heat and electricity production from a renewable source in Serbia, the statement says.
