Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the price of natural gas increased sharply in the past ten days and the country was forced to start using gas extracted from storage due to increased consumption in the past few days.
President Vucic said that natural gas is essential for the security of Serbia’s energy supply during the winter, with the operation of combined heat and power plants at Novi Sad and Pancevo (which was commissioned earlier this week). He added that without gas, using only coal and renewable energy resources (including hydro energy), Serbia would face disruptions in energy supply.
He reminded that Serbia agreed additional supply of natural gas with Bulgaria, as well as the import of “green” electricity from Azerbaijan via Romania and Hungary.
