The electricity consumption in Romania decreased by 7.6% to 24.4TWh in H1 2023 compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the statistics office INS.
The electricity consumption in the economy declined by 5.7%, to 18.5TWh, and the households used 12.6% less electricity in the same period – around 5.7 TWh.
Total electricity production reached 29.9 TWh in the first half of 2023, which is 5% more compared to the same period in 2022.
Production in thermal power plants decreased by 21% and reached 8.4 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 48% to 11.4 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 3% to 5.34 TWh. Production of wind power in January-June reached 4 TWh. Solar power production reached 817 GWh.
Electricity exports in the first six months amounted to 6.43 TWh, which is by 109% more compared to the same period in 2022. At the same time electricity imports decreased by 6%, to 3.6 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in January-June 2023 amounted to 9,147 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4% more than in 2022. Coal production reached 1,284.4 million tons of oil equivalent, oil production reached 1,406.6 million tons of oil equivalent, while production of natural gas reached 3,755 million tons of oil equivalent.
