According to Energy Charts, Ukraine stopped electricity exchange with Russia and Belarus for a three-day trial period.
Ukraine’s electricity imports from Russia have stopped on 23 February at 00:00 local time, while imports from Belarus stopped on 23 February at 02:00 local time. Ukraine also halted exports of electricity to these two countries. The halt will last until 26 February, during which time Ukraine will test its electricity system.
Ukrainian authorities said that the outage was planned. According to the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine consumers about 23,000 MW of electricity per day and has the capacity to produce additional 3,400 MW above the usual generation.
Ukraine operates four nuclear power plants which generate about 55 % of the country’s electricity. Coal-fired thermal power plants cover some 29 %, with the rest accounted for other energy sources.
