Swiss-based MET Group has signed a partnership agreement with Celsius to construct its inaugural LNG vessel, set for delivery in 2027. The carrier will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry, supporting MET Group’s expanding LNG activities. Celsius, a prominent ship owner and operator focused on sustainable maritime investments, joins MET as a joint venture equity partner.

This vessel purchase aligns with MET Group’s strategy to diversify its LNG supply sources, including a recent 10-year agreement with Shell to acquire US LNG. Chairman and CEO Benjamin Lakatos expressed enthusiasm about this milestone, emphasizing the role of LNG in the European energy transition. Celsius Chairman and CEO Jeppe Jensen highlighted that efficient LNG carriers are crucial for advancing this transition, positioning LNG as a key fuel in the shift toward greener energy solutions.
