On 21 March, wholesale gas trading platform launched at the Greek energy exchange without any problems, with transactions representing a total quantity of 1,101 MWh at prices ranging between 85 and 88 euros/MWh.
So far, ten companies are registered to participate in gas trading on the new platform: Axpo, Elpedison, Motor Oil, DEPA Trade, DESFA, PPC, EPA Attiki, Zenith, Heron and Mytilineos.
The new platform includes a day-ahead market covering three 24-hour periods in advance, as well as an intraday market. It also hosts gas balancing trading covering the network’s needs.
Trading for futures contracts is planned for a latter date, which will enable companies to pursue hedging strategies without needing to resort to other European markets for such tools.
The new gas trading platform in Greece should lead to more competitive natural gas prices as it will enable companies to capitalize on opportunities whenever they arise.
