Energo-Pro, the Czech energy group, has commissioned its first battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bulgaria. The project has a capacity of 10.75 MW and 24.31 MWh. The facility is connected to the national electricity grid.
The battery storage installation is located in Gorna Oryahovitsa in northern Bulgaria. It was developed by Energo-Pro Bulgaria. Operations will be handled by Energo-Pro Energy Services.
Grid connection and role in balancing
The commissioned BESS is designed to support system flexibility and energy balancing capabilities. Following commissioning, it becomes part of the group’s portfolio of energy infrastructure assets. The project also relates to the integration of renewable energy sources into the power system.
Investment and National Recovery and Resilience Plan support
The total investment for the battery storage project is €4.23 million. It received partial financial support through Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Funding was provided under the Low Carbon Economy Program.
