A significant collaboration has emerged in Bulgaria as CWP Europe partners with Heidelberg Materials Devnya to develop what is anticipated to be the nation’s largest wind farm project. This initiative aims to merge large-scale renewable energy generation with low-carbon industrial production, marking a notable step in the country’s energy landscape.

The projected investment for this venture is expected to surpass €300 million, although specific details regarding the wind farm’s installed capacity have yet to be revealed. This financial commitment underscores the growing importance of renewable energy infrastructure in Bulgaria’s economic framework.

As part of the agreement, the foundations of the wind farm will utilize EvoZero, a carbon-neutral cement produced by Heidelberg Materials. This innovative material is manufactured using carbon capture and storage technology at the company’s facility in Brevik, Norway, with commercial availability across Europe slated to commence in late 2025.

Once operational, the wind farm is projected to deliver renewable electricity directly to the cement production facility in Devnya. This integration aims to establish a low-carbon industrial model, where cleaner cement is employed to build renewable energy infrastructure, while simultaneously minimizing the carbon emissions associated with cement manufacturing.

CWP Europe representatives have indicated that this project will not only enhance electricity production but also yield broader economic benefits, such as bolstering local employment opportunities and fostering additional industrial growth within Bulgaria. The initiative exemplifies a strategic approach to combining renewable energy with industrial needs.

This project reflects a broader trend across Europe where renewable energy initiatives are increasingly linked with energy-intensive sectors striving for decarbonization and reduced dependency on fossil fuels. As industries seek sustainable solutions, such collaborations are poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy production and consumption in the region.
