In recent discussions with South Korean partners, caretaker Energy Minister Traicho Traikov underscored the imperative of preventing budget overruns. He advocated for fixed-price contractual arrangements as a means to mitigate financial risks throughout the construction process, reflecting a broader trend towards fiscal responsibility in large-scale energy projects.
Meetings with representatives from Hyundai Engineering & Construction and the South Korean diplomatic mission have indicated progress in preparations for the expansion. However, these discussions also revealed the necessity to extend an existing engineering agreement that lapsed in early March. This extension aims to facilitate additional technical work and avert delays that could disrupt the overall project timeline.
A significant focus for Bulgarian authorities is ensuring that local industry plays a substantial role in this expansion. The government has expressed its commitment to allocating approximately 30% of project activities to domestic companies, which is seen as a strategic move to bolster economic growth, especially in the northwestern regions of Bulgaria.
