AES Bulgaria said that its coal-fired thermal power plant AES Galabovo has successfully completed the maintenance work on its two units.
The statement from the company said that, as a result of the overhaul, the power plant is ready for operation during the upcoming winter season. Moreover, AES Galabovo has secured coal stocks, exceeding by 50 % the quantity required by law.
The power plant produced over 2.83 million MWh of electricity in the first nine months of 2022, which covered about 10 % of Bulgaria’s electricity consumption in that period.
In 1999, US AES Corporation purchased the majority stake in Bulgaria’s Maritsa East 1 power plant, subsequently renamed AES Galabovo in 2009. AES completed the full acquisition of the thermal power plant from Ireland’s Consolidated Continental Commerce Limited in 2005.
