According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 6 November 2022 has increased by 8.57 % compared to 2021 and reached 42.46 TWh.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in the same period, by 1.57 % reaching a total of 31.83 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 10.64 TWh so far in 2022, 57 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 35.79 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 12.27 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 26.21 % to 1,358.2 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 16.17 % to 1,955.1 GWh.
