Alteo has successfully launched a new battery energy storage system in Győr, Hungary, enhancing its capabilities in grid flexibility and energy balancing. This facility boasts a capacity of 20 MWh and is strategically located adjacent to an existing gas-fired power plant, which allows for improved utilization of grid connection capacity through the integration with existing infrastructure.
This development is part of a broader investment initiative backed by Hungary’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. Several subsidiaries of Alteo have received funding for various battery storage projects, with the Győr facility being implemented by Alteo-Therm at a total cost of approximately €7.4 million, which includes €2.4 million in non-repayable grants.
The new storage system is designed to capitalize on the operational efficiencies provided by the nearby gas engines, thereby optimizing overall performance. In addition to bolstering electricity supply and supporting grid stability, Alteo-Therm also delivers district heating services across multiple cities, contributing to a more resilient and diversified energy system.
With this latest installation, Alteo’s cumulative storage capacity has now reached 90 MW, managed through a centralized control system. This expansion follows other recent advancements, including a 50 MW system that was commissioned earlier this year in Győr and a subsequent 10 MW installation launched in Bana. Through ongoing investments in energy storage technologies, Alteo aims to enhance network reliability while facilitating the integration of an increasing proportion of renewable energy sources.
