Romania is likely to have retained its position as the largest natural gas producer in the European Union during the third quarter of 2024, following its emergence as the leader in the second quarter. The country’s two largest domestic producers, Romgaz and OMV Petrom, reported natural gas output levels similar to those of the previous year and close to second-quarter figures.

The third significant producer, Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG), also indicated that its production remained steady. The combined output of Romgaz and OMV Petrom saw a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.5% and a 1.5% decline quarter-on-quarter, totaling 1.6 billion cubic meters in the third quarter.

Romgaz experienced a year-on-year production increase of 4.5%, reaching 1.183 billion cubic meters. In contrast, OMV Petrom’s output fell by 7% year-on-year to 0.78 billion cubic meters. BSOG’s production is estimated to be around 0.3 billion cubic meters per quarter.
