In the week of January 13, 2025, solar photovoltaic energy production saw an increase in major European electricity markets, with the German and French markets continuing their upward trend for the second consecutive week. The Italian and Iberian markets reversed their decline trend from the previous two weeks. Portugal saw the largest percentage increase in solar production at 87%, while Italy had the smallest increase at 16%. The German, Spanish, and French markets registered increases of 41%, 58%, and 61%, respectively.

During the week, solar photovoltaic energy production reached all-time generation records for January in most of the analyzed markets. The French market saw its highest January generation on January 13 with 60 GWh, while Spain achieved 111 GWh on January 14. Portugal set a new daily production record for January on January 17, reaching 15 GWh.

For the fourth week of January, solar energy production forecasts by AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest an increase in the German and Italian markets, but a decrease in Spain’s market.

Wind energy production saw a general decrease across all major European markets during the third week of January, compared to the previous week. The Italian market experienced the smallest decline at 19%, while France had the largest drop at 69%. Portugal, Spain and Germany also saw declines of 28%, 60%, and 65%, respectively. After two weeks of growth, wind energy production in the French, German, and Iberian markets shifted to a downward trend.

Looking ahead to the week of January 20, AleaSoft’s wind energy production forecasts predict an increase in France, Germany, and Spain, while Portugal and Italy are expected to continue experiencing declines in wind energy generation, AleaSoft reports.
