Based on a recently signed Memorandum of Cooperation, Slovenia’s largest gas wholesaler, Geoplin, has finalized its inaugural natural gas supply deal with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). This agreement marks the first step toward potential long-term collaboration between the two entities. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The Memorandum of Cooperation, signed during the visit of Slovenia’s Minister of Environment, Climate, and Energy, Bojan Kumer, to Baku last month, aims to enhance cooperation in natural gas supply. Kumer emphasized Azerbaijan’s role in strengthening strategic partnerships and ensuring reliable gas supplies to Slovenia. He highlighted that Azerbaijan, an increasingly significant supplier to the EU, offers an additional opportunity for diversifying Slovenia’s gas supply, complementing the renewal of gas supplies from Algeria in 2023.
