Slovenia: Electricity generation rises 44% year-on-year amid shifts in energy supply

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in April 2025 increased by 44% compared to the same month last year. Total net electricity production reached 1,271 GWh in April, which was 11% lower than in March 2025.

Production in thermal power plants fell by 20% compared to April 2024, while hydropower generation decreased by 18%. The Krsko nuclear power plant underwent regular maintenance during the month, affecting output. In contrast, production from wind and solar power plants increased by 19% in April.

Electricity imports in April 2025 amounted to 706 GWh, representing a 23% decline compared to April 2024. At the same time, exports rose by 25%, reaching 915 GWh. Household electricity consumption dropped by 18% from the previous month, totaling 250 GWh, while commercial consumers used 575 GWh, 3% less than in March.

Regarding energy commodity supply, most categories saw a decline in April compared to March, except for other petroleum products, which surged by 173%. Kerosene supply increased by 83%, petrol by 57%, diesel by 11%, and heating oil by 9%. Meanwhile, supplies of lignite and brown coal fell sharply by 50%, natural gas by 28%, coke by 7%, hard coal by 3%, and LPG by 1%.

When compared to April 2024, supply of kerosene rose by 64%, petrol by 38%, heating oil by 19%, LPG by 14%, hard coal by 14%, and coke by 8%.
