According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the country’s net electricity generation in January 2025 decreased by 7% compared to the same month last year. However, total net electricity generation in January 2025 reached 1,281 GWh, showing a 1% increase compared to the previous month.
In terms of production sources, thermal power plants saw a 3% decrease in output compared to January 2024, while production in hydropower plants dropped by 22%. On the other hand, nuclear power plant Krsko produced 1% more electricity. The production from wind and solar power plants increased significantly by 20%.
In January 2025, Slovenia imported 907 GWh of electricity, which represents a 1% increase compared to January 2023. Meanwhile, electricity exports decreased by 8%, totaling 899 GWh.
In terms of consumption, households in Slovenia used 358 GWh of electricity, marking a 10% decrease compared to the previous month. Commercial consumers, however, consumed 626 GWh, a 3% increase compared to December.
The supply of energy commodities in general showed a decline in January, with the exception of hard coal, which rose by 78%. Kerosene supply increased by 39%, coke by 9%, heating oil by 7%, and natural gas by 5%. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the supply of lignite and brown coal (33%), LPG (11%), diesel (9%), other petroleum products (8%), and petrol (6%).
In comparison to January 2024, the supply of LPG decreased by 20%, heating oil by 18%, diesel by 16%, coke by 9%, and lignite and brown coal by 8%.
