The Slovenian Government has approved the spatial development plan for a new 30 MW solar power project, which will be the largest solar installation in the country so far. The project is led by Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM) and this approval marks a key step toward securing a construction permit.
The solar plant will be built across several municipalities in northeastern Slovenia, including Starše, Hajdina, Gorišnica, and Markovci. The design features eight separate solar units, with five located in the village of Zlatoličje and three in Formin. Each unit will have its own transformer station, and all will be connected into a single integrated system.
The project is intended to complement the region’s existing hydropower plants, aiming to maximize renewable energy production and improve the stability and reliability of the national electricity grid.
In 2024, Slovenia expanded its solar capacity by 298.8 MW, mainly driven by residential installations, bringing the total installed solar power capacity in the country to about 1.4 GW.
