As the global call for environmental protection grows louder, businesses are increasingly under scrutiny for their ecological footprint. NIS, one of the leading energy companies, sheds light on its green agenda and its transformative projects aimed at environmental preservation.
Over the past decade, NIS has invested over 900 million euros in various environmental initiatives, with more than 130 million euros dedicated solely to eco-friendly projects. In 2023, the company allocated 801.8 million dinars towards ecological endeavors, demonstrating its steadfast commitment to sustainability.
A significant portion of these investments has been directed towards the modernization of the Oil Refinery in Pancevo, resulting in substantial environmental improvements. The commissioning of the MHC/DHT complex in 2012 allowed for the production of low-sulfur fuel, while the completion of the deep processing plant in 2020 further reduced emissions. Notably, the modernization efforts have slashed SO2 emissions by 98.8 percent and powdery substances by over 50 percent.
NIS has also made strides in transportation, promoting compressed natural gas (CNG) as a cleaner alternative fuel. Additionally, the installation of electric vehicle chargers at select retail outlets underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
In the realm of energy production, NIS has diversified its portfolio by venturing into electricity generation. Through cogeneration plants and gas-powered facilities, the company converts waste gas into heat and electricity, mitigating environmental impact.
The construction of the Pančevo thermal power plant stands out as a monumental investment, signaling NIS’s transition towards greener energy sources. With an emphasis on natural gas, the plant facilitates combined electricity and thermal energy production while reducing carbon emissions.
Furthermore, NIS is spearheading solar energy initiatives, with plans to install photovoltaic panels at numerous gas stations. These solar-powered stations are poised to generate significant electricity and curb carbon dioxide emissions, aligning with the company’s sustainability goals.
Beyond project implementation, NIS remains dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency, achieving a remarkable 33 percent increase from 2012 to 2023. This concerted effort not only conserves resources but also bolsters environmental stewardship.
In essence, NIS’s unwavering commitment to sustainable practices underscores its pivotal role in championing environmental responsibility and fostering a greener future.
