The European Investment Bank (EIB) expressed its interest in “in the future providing financial support and participating in the projects of the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia in the field of improving energy efficiency in households, residential buildings and public facilities”.
The head of that department, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, stated that today she discussed with the EIB delegation that the company “Elektrodistribucija Srbije” (EDS), with the support of the EU, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EIB, “is working on an advanced system of remote reading and installation of smart meters”.
According to her, this contributes to the reduction of losses in the electrical grid and brings significant electricity savings, the Ministry reported in a statement.
“From the EU donation, around 254,000 smart meters have been installed so far, and that number will double… We secured additional funds from the EBRD and the EIB to install several hundred thousand more meters, which will directly benefit citizens and the economy. “We want our distribution system to follow the most modern technological solutions and to replace most of the existing meters by the end of the decade,” said the minister.
