Spot electricity prices in Hungary and Romania continued to drop in the first two weeks of February, from around 90 euros/MWh at the turn of the month to a weekday average of 74-75 euros/MWh in the week from February 4-11, due to milder weather, low gas and carbon prices, and still-strong renewable generation.
Forward power prices in both countries have also decreased in February. The month-ahead base fell by 8-9 euros/MWh to close February 9 at 69 euros/MWh. Quarter-ahead base dropped by 3-4 euros/MWh to close at 65 euros/MWh.
