Romanian energy market: September sees 6.1% increase in average electricity price

In September 2024, the average electricity price on Romania’s day-ahead market at the OPCOM energy exchange reached €109.48 per megawatt-hour (MWh). This figure represents a 6.1% increase compared to the same month last year, although it is 13.73% lower than August 2024, when the average baseload price was €126.91 per MWh.

The traded volume for the month totaled 1.41 million MWh, marking a 21.8% rise from September 2023 but a 3.42% decrease from August. The average traded volume during September 2024 was 1,960.1 MWh per hour.

In terms of financial transactions, the total value of trades in September amounted to €168.5 million, which is a significant 35.14% increase compared to €124.7 million in September 2023, but an 18.9% drop from the previous month’s €207.8 million.

The day-ahead market accounted for 36.38% of the forecasted net consumption for September 2024. Additionally, the intraday market saw 167,548 MWh traded, representing a 20.44% increase from September 2023 and a 2.55% rise compared to August. The average price in the intraday market was €104.34 per MWh, up 23.64% from the previous year and down 20.89% from August.

Furthermore, the total traded volume for bilateral contracts with delivery in September was 0.767 million MWh, with an average price of €96.63 per MWh.
