Helexia, a subsidiary of French renewable energy company Voltalia, has successfully commissioned 28 rooftop solar power plants in Romania, boasting a total capacity of 12.8 MW.
According to a statement from Voltalia, these solar systems have been installed on the rooftops of 16 local outlets of the French supermarket chain Auchan, while the remaining 12 sites are owned by the French home furnishings retailer Leroy Merlin. Together, these solar power plants are projected to generate over 14 GWh of electricity annually, which will cover approximately 20-30% of each store’s energy needs.
The solar installations comprise 27,000 photovoltaic panels spread across more than 63,000 square meters of rooftop space. Voltalia highlights that the operation of these plants will lead to a reduction of over 8,000 tons of CO2 emissions and enable the retailers to lower their energy expenses.
Under the agreement with Auchan Retail and Leroy Merlin, Helexia will maintain ownership of the solar systems, furthering the sustainability efforts of both retailers.
