Verbund Wind Power Romania, the Romanian arm of Austria’s energy group Verbund, has acquired a fully developed wind project from renewables developer Monsson. The project, located in Caras-Severin county, has a planned capacity of 272 MW and is expected to generate approximately 569 GWh of electricity annually.

The transaction involves a ready-to-build project, with all necessary permits and grid connection agreements already secured. Construction is set to begin in 2026.

Verbund has been active in Romania since 2012, operating the 226 MW Casimcea wind farm in Tulcea county. The company emphasized its intention to deepen cooperation with Monsson, framing the acquisition as part of its broader strategy to support Romania’s transition to renewable energy.

According to Verbund’s 2030 strategic plan, the company aims to significantly expand its renewable energy capacity, with a goal of generating 25 percent of its electricity from solar and onshore wind. Romania is identified as a key market for achieving this target.
