Electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Romania’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said that the unit 2 of the plant was automatically disconnected on Thursday, 14 October morning from the national network as a result of the switching of the energy delivery switches in the national energy system.
The company is currently investigating the cause that led to the switching off of the power supply switches, which determined the automatic disconnection of unit 2 from the network. According to the statement, the automatic disconnection took place in safe conditions, all the systems of the unit operating and responding according to the project in such situations.
NPP Cernavoda provides about 18 % of the national electricity consumption. It has two reactors with installed capacity of 700 MW each.
